Chaptico Skatepark is a new 6,600-square-foot concrete skatepark located within Chaptico Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Opened in September 2026, the park has a street-focused layout with a variety of features including hips, stairs, handrails, hubbas, bump-to-rails, down rails, euro gaps, flat bars, ledges, pads, quarter pipes, and a bank-to-curb.
The park was built by Artisan Skateparks and is designed to accommodate skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter riders, and inline skaters. Admission is free, making Chaptico Skatepark a great new addition to the skate scene in northern St. Mary's County.
Skatepark Rules
All participants assume all risk of injury. St. Mary’s County Government and its agents are not responsible for any injuries.
- Safety equipment is strongly recommended, including helmets, kneepads, elbow pads, wrist guards, and proper shoes.
- It is recommended that skaters under the age of 18 wear a helmet at all times.
- It is recommended that skaters use only the equipment that is appropriate for their skill level.
- This park is designed for skateboards, scooters, inline skates, and bicycles. Motorized vehicles or RC cars are not allowed.
- Metal stunt pegs on BMX bikes are prohibited. Only plastic pegs are permitted. BMX bikes are prohibited in the cloverleaf pool.
- The skate park will be open during published operating hours unless closed for inclement weather. This includes thunder, lightning and when surfaces are wet, icy, or snow covered.
- St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks in its sole discretion reserves the right to close the facility for inclement weather, events and/or maintenance.
- Competitive or demonstration events are prohibited unless sanctioned and/or authorized by the Recreation & Parks Department.
- Recklessness will not be tolerated. All skaters must use this facility responsibly to avoid injury to themselves or others. The use of proper skater etiquette is expected.
- The use of personal obstacles without approval is prohibited.
- Horseplay, abusive language, or fighting will result in loss of skating privileges.
- Animals are prohibited in the park.
- Dispose of all trash in the appropriate receptacles. Please keep all food, drinks, and glass out of the skating area.
- No loitering, trespassing, or skating when the park is closed.
- The use of illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products is prohibited.
- The destruction or defacing of public property is prohibited.
